Have you ever looked at your personalized amazon.com page? It’s one that they go all crazy on with a dashboard of your orders, how long you’ve been a member, and LOTS of recommendations based on past purchases. Well here are a few of the things Amazon is suggesting I may like:
- A horror film
- Latex gloves from the category Safety and Security (is that so I don’t leave fingerprints?)
- Industrial Clorox Wipes from Industrial Grade Medical Supply
- 1# of citric acid and pH testing strips from Lab and Science Products
- A 24 pack of paper towels from Janitorial & Sanitation Supplies
- Industrial hand and power tools
- A book called Portlandness
- A remote control fire truck
- Knives
- The Lindsey Sterling album
- Ground ginger
I literally can’t with you right now, Amazon. What is it that they think I like to..OMG Amazon totally thinks I’m a serial killer. A hipster serial killer. Who likes strange, poppy violin music. Apparently, that is the sort of list you get when searching for all the random supplies I need to do fun projects for you guys. Like clay and glass glitter. Also, I wonder how many times I have to mention “serial killer” for Google to index this post for that? And if amazon and google think you are a serial killer, doesn’t that mean it has to be true? These are the personal sacrifices I am making to bring you all projects about glitter and dinosaur charms.
OH and in case you didn’t know, various sizes of metal tubing are the hot new toy for grownups:
So… how about that project?
SUPPLIES FOR DIY GLITTER CLAY + UNICORN CHARM NECKLACE
- oven bake clay
- glitter
- jump rings
- chain
- clasp
- small geo cookie cutters
- paperclip (or other similar, small item to make holes in the clay)
- charm
STEP ONE
Take one scored off section of clay and knead it some. Once soft, mold the clay into a small bowl in your hands and pour in some glitter. Carefully knead the glitter into the clay. Keep adding more until you get the amount of sparkle you’d like.
STEP TWO
Roll out clay to 1/4in thick and cut out shapes with small cookie cutter. I got five triangles out of my piece of clay. Straighten out your paperclip and make small holes in the top of your shape, large enough to fit the jump rings. Bake your clay according to the directions on the package.
STEP THREE
Assemble your necklace. This is where it gets a little tricky to explain, because it will change depending on the size and shape of your charm and clay, but you will want to string together various sized jump rings to hang the pieces how you’d like them. Here is a closeup of what I did so you can get an idea:
STEP FOUR
Add the clasp to your chain and prepare for the compliments to coming rolling in on how cool you are. Or wear it around the house in your PJs. I think we all know which one is relevant to me.
